Scott Donaldson took first place in the 4-Axle category at the Georgia competition held May 7-9 in Buford, Ga. Scott was part of the winning Holland team that was presented with the Clifford Williams Award for Large Team. American Trucking Associations (ATA) Road Team Captain Herschel Evans (second, Sleeper) and Rickey Tate (second, Straight Truck) were also on the Holland winning team.

Scott has been driving professionally for Holland for the past 16 years operating out of Atlanta, Ga. He first began competing in truck driving safety competitions in 2009 where he took second place in Flatbed and was named Rookie of the Year. Since then, he has placed in the top three of his class five times.

Holland driver Russ Simpson won first in the Tanker category at the 2015 Ohio State Truck Driving Championships held May 15-16 in Sandusky, Ohio. Russ first started competing in 2008 when he finished first in the 5-Axle category for the state of Ohio and was also named Rookie of the Year. Russ also took first in the 5-Axle category in 2013. Every other year that he has competed since 2008, Russ has finished either second or third in the state of Ohio.

Russ has been driving with Holland for 22 years and currently operates as a city driver out of Columbus, Ohio. Due in part to his incredible safety record and commitment, Russ was selected as a 2015-2016 America's Road Team Captain by the ATA. This prestigious group of professional truck drivers share superior driving skills, remarkable safety records and a strong desire to spread the word about safety on the highway.

"True greatness is only reached by those who always strive for continuous improvement," said Scott Ware, president of Holland. "Scott and Russ - drivers with this level of skill, dedication and focus on safety - make Holland the industry-leader it is today. I congratulate and thank them, as well as all of our hard-working Holland professional drivers, for their strong commitment to safety. Their efforts and dedication to safety make our nation's highways safer for us all."

In total, Holland had 71 professional drivers compete at 14 different state truck driving competitions this year including South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Alabama, New York, Indiana and Kansas. This was the first year the company had drivers compete in the Alabama, Kentucky and Wisconsin state championships. Holland drivers earned nine of the top-three trophies in four states. In addition, four Holland drivers from Minneapolis won the Small Team Award at the Minnesota State Truck Driving Championships this year (Tom Carlson, second, Straight Truck; Mark Edlund, third, 5-Axle; Jesse Harren, third, Flatbed; and Jim Rolow).

From 2004-2015, Team Holland has earned a total of 69 top-three trophies. To simply qualify for state truck driving competitions, drivers must remain accident-free the entire year prior to competition. Competitions consist of a driven portion, pre-trip inspection, and a written exam on subjects such as laws, regulations and vehicle maintenance.
