20 Yellow Transportation Drivers Qualify to Compete in National Truck Driving Championships

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug 4, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Yellow Transportation, the largest subsidiary of Yellow Corporation (Nasdaq: YELL), today announced that 20 of its professional drivers qualified to compete in the 2003 National Truck Driving Championships, sponsored by the American Trucking Association (ATA). The competition, which promotes safe driving, will be held August 19-23 in Columbus, Ohio.

Yellow is competing for its third consecutive National Grand Champion title. Among the 20 drivers are 7 first-time state champions, the highest number of first-time state champions to drive on the Yellow Nationals team.

"Yellow holds quality and safety in the highest regard so we are extremely proud to have 20 drivers representing the company at the National Truck Driving Championships," said James Welch, President and Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Transportation. "Their performance throughout the year demonstrates the driving skill, commitment to safety and true professionalism that all Yellow employees strive for."

The drivers qualified by winning their state competition and being accident free for one year. Additionally, the drivers must remain accident free through the Nationals. The competition allows the drivers an opportunity to demonstrate their driving skills and knowledge of the industry through a series of tests. These include written and oral examinations, a vehicle pre- trip inspection test and a skills test behind the wheel.

Yellow driver Jim March, a linehaul driver at the Yellow service center in Lancaster, PA, will be defending his title as National Grand Champion. Yellow also captured the top honor in 2001.

The names of the 20 qualifying drivers, along with the other 175 Yellow driving professionals who participated in state level driving contests, will be featured on the #1 Yellow race car during the August 22 Busch Grand National Series race in Bristol, TN.

The 20 Yellow Transportation professional drivers who have qualified to compete in the 2003 National Truck Driving Championships include:
