28 Outstanding Yellow Transportation Drivers Qualify to Compete in the National Truck Driving Championships

2006 Breaks 2005 Record Number of Drivers to Represent Yellow at the Championship

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., July 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Yellow Transportation, a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq: YRCW), today announced that a record-breaking 28 of its professional drivers qualified to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) to be held August 15-19th at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA.

The first-place winners of the state truck driving championships qualify for the American Trucking Associations' national championships. To participate in state competitions, drivers must be accident-free for one year.

Yellow Transportation has a strong history at the championships. Yellow Transportation drivers have captured the National Grand Champion title three times in the past five years, including last year. Driver Jim March is a former National Grand Champion and has finished in the top three in his class two other times. Gerald Cudmore is a former national champion and former winner of the ATA professional excellence award. Jim Wilcox and Chet Radwan are also past professional excellence award winners. Mark Hassemer and Neil Nogues have both finished as high as second in the nation, and Bruce Green finished second in his class last year.

"We are pleased to break the old company record of 26 drivers at the championships set last year," said James Welch, president and chief executive officer, Yellow Transportation. "These state champions have demonstrated their dedication to safe driving and their commitment to upholding the industry's highest standards of professionalism. We have an excellent team this year, and we wish them all the best of luck."

The Yellow Transportation drivers will compete against nearly 400 others for national titles in eight different classes of vehicles and for the National Grand Champion title. The drivers accumulate points by demonstrating their driving skill and knowledge of the trucking industry through a series of tests. The drivers are given a written examination, personal interview, pre-trip inspection test and a field test.
