TUALATIN, Ore., Aug. 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Reddaway professional drivers and safety champions Dean Goodnight, Chris Mireles, John Van Buren and Dan Istre won the division titles at their state truck driving competitions and have qualified to compete at the 2015 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) held August 11-15 at the America's Center Convention Complex & Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo.
Dean Goodnight has been driving professionally for 31 years and has spent nearly 25 of those years driving for Reddaway - all of those years without a single accident behind the wheel at work and home. This year Dean won first place in the Flatbed division at the Idaho State Truck Driving Championships (TDCs). He first started competing at TDCs in 1996 and has since amassed a number of first place trophies for his safe driving skills. He has placed first in the 4-Axle division four times and has been named Grand Champion for the state of Idaho four times. Prior to this year, Dean's previous first place finishes came in 2003, 2005 and 2006. Overall, Dean has finished in the top three in Idaho TDCs eleven times since 1996. He currently operates as a pickup and delivery driver out of the company
Boise, Idaho terminal.
Chris Mireles has been driving professionally for 18 years and has spent 3 of those years driving for Reddaway. This year Chris won first place in the Twins division at the California State Truck Driving Championships. He first started competing in TDCs in 2004 and this year marks his first trip to NTDC. He operates as a linehaul driver out of the company Los Angeles (LAX), Calif. terminal.
John Van Buren has taken top honors in the Sleeper division in the state of Oregon. This is the third consecutive year that he has won top honors in Oregon and his sixth win overall since he started competing in his state truck driving competitions 12 years ago. Prior to this year, John's previous first place finishes came in 2003, 2005, 2010, 2013 and 2014. He earned a fourth place at NTDC in 2010 and a fifth place at NTDC in 2013. John has been in the transportation industry for 26 years and has spent 24 years driving for Reddaway. He operates as a pickup and delivery driver out of the company Medford, Ore. terminal.
Dan Istre has been driving professionally for 33 years and has spent the past 22 years driving for Reddaway. This year Dan won first place in the Twins division at the Idaho State Truck Driving Championships. He first started competing in state truck driving competitions in 1999 where he won highest overall pre-trip score, was named Rookie of the Year as well as Grand Champion. This year, he will have competed in five NTDC competitions after winning Idaho state driving championships in 1999, 2002, 2009 and 2014. Dan was Idaho Driver of the Year in 2010. He has driven over 31 years collision-free. He currently operates as a linehaul driver out of the company Boise, Idaho terminal.

In order to qualify for these events, drivers must remain collision-free the entire year prior to competition. Competitions consist of a driven portion, pre-trip inspection, and a written exam on subjects such as laws, regulations and vehicle maintenance.
